Credibility in Conformity Assessment

and the importance of the process, its actors and roles in Data Center infrastructure certification, is the theme of this article.

When talking about certification, the questions that arise are: how credible is this certification? What is the competence of those who certified? Is the methodology you used recognized? And so on.

When it comes to Data Center infrastructure certification it is no different and that is why DCCert is a Certifier that follows a methodology recognized by the IAF and whose credibility is demonstrated through the chain of competence as shown in the figure below.

But let's talk about certification first:

Certification is a conformity assessment mechanism, with specific rules, which certifies that an object (Data Center infrastructure) meets the requirements of a normative basis (ISO/IEC 22237, TIA-942B).

Brazil's certifications are based on the SBAC - Brazilian Conformity Assessment System, where INMETRO has a regulatory role (Rules for compulsory and voluntary conformity assessment programs) and ABNT as the competent body for generating standards .

The IAF Forum is comprised of more than 150 countries and represents global agreement on conformity assessment practices. When a Data Center displays a Certificate within this conformity assessment scheme, it means that the entire chain has undergone competency assessments, giving credibility to the Certificate issued.

But what does it take to issue a Certificate?

In short, a Conformity Assessment Program is needed, where the first step is to define an assessment mechanism (certification, inspection, verification, validation, ...), the technical basis for assessment (the standards to be used) and a rule for the program. This rule defines the actors in the process and the procedure (scope, evaluation activities, frequencies, supervision, etc.). The figure below summarizes the DCCert Certification Program.

The credibility of the system is demonstrated in the reliability of all its actors: the evaluator, in this case DCCert, which follows a worldwide accepted Methodology and Rule, international or national standards, legitimately created and published.

The conclusion is that a certificate alone is not a guarantee of credibility, you need to know more about its origin.
